Finally bought Michael Wang's (Guangliang) new release. Had watched the album special on cable TV about a month before the songs hit the airwaves. It left a deep impression then as the lead song 童话 has a very moving MV. The plot is no doubt cliché, where the girl dies in the end sort. But I was touched nonetheless. A big sucker for things dreamy and romantic I know. Watching the MV gave me a feeling; listening to the song gave me a different feeling; reading the lyrics gave me yet another feeling.
Nice feelings.
The melody and lyrics are beautiful. Just like how fairytales are supposed to be beautiful. Contrary to the ending of the MV,it speaks of the promise that there would be a happy ending to a relationship. A guy who wishes,who wants,and who wills himself to be the angel in every girl’s fairytale.
Can I believe in that?
It makes you want to believe,to hold on to the faith that someone like that is out there.
I would say the album is a collection of relationships. Several of the songs are very meaningful, such as 天堂. Many may not know but it was inspired one day when Michael was reminded of Leslie Cheung’s suicide. In the MV special,Michael’s good friends Fish Leong and Rene Liu mentioned that Michael comes across as Peter Pan who stays young and tries to capture that spirit in his songs. Hearing his compositions makes me feel that he resembles more of the Little Prince somehow.
