Staying up late to watch the news on cable. Following the sighting of billowing white smoke from the chimneys of the Sistine Chapel,bells started to toll,signaling that a new Pope has been elected. So it was an anxious wait for the announcement to be made.
German cardinal Joseph Ratzinger has been elected as the 265th Pope. He has chosen the name Pope Benedict XVI.
In Rome,the people are celebrating this moment as they rushed down to gather at the Square and to receive the first blessings.
