The day after is Boxing Day of course! Unwrapped your pressies yet? It is perhaps reminiscent of those times when we were young and we would open our Christmas gifts with much glee and anticipation. Well you should have fun if you have been good for the past year. Santa knows. ;) A thank you goes out here to dear friends for your presents. Also, a thank you to Jiahui and folks at home for having us over yesterday. It is quite tough at times to get people together. Like how New Year’s eve looks set to be another headache for us.
Anyway gifts are pretty much a formality these days and most of us have actually done away with it. Yes yes, the commercialization of Christmas has sorta taken place without some of us feeling it. But I guess somehow we can also look beyond the nature of the gifts to feel the joy and message when someone tries to tell us “I remember you”. That’s why even a simple card or sms greeting can mean a lot too.
Today is also the time when we commemorate the tsunami tragedy that has shown us the fragility of life. Perhaps in both above instances, it is like how Forrest Gump puts it, “ Momma always said 'life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.' ” But no matter what is in store, we can always count on it to be revealed in good time. When nothing is certain in the next second, instead of wishing for something that we cannot have, lets just take some time off to cherish the love and the people that we already have around us today. After all, maybe that is why we call the Present a GIFT.
