some dreams live on in time forever
those dreams, you want with all your heart
and i will do whatever it takes
follow through with the promise i made
put it all on the line
what i hoped for at last would be mine
if i could reach,higher
just for one moment touch the sky
from that one moment in my life
i am gonna be stronger
know that i have tried my very best
i would put my spirit to the test
if i could reach
some days are meant to be remembered
those days we rise above the stars
so i will go the distance this time
seeing more the higher i climb
that the more i believe
all the more that this dream would be mine

~ Happy birthday Singapore!! ~
We may be plagued by the debates of whether Singapore can be called a nation or if the Singaporean identity has come of age. But every year when we come together to celebrate the country’s birthday, there exists an indescribable feeling in me. A mix of pride and nostalgia that we have come thus far together.
Perhaps we have taken for granted the red passport that we cross borders with. Learning about the Palestinians back in my jc days and most recently about cross-Taiwan straits relations,it brings home the reality that nationality is not just something we fill in the empty blank on forms. Forget nationalism but in the realm of international politics,it is a core truth that nationality does to a large extent define the identity of the individual.
Granted the environment here may not be the best but it has nurtured us into who we are today. Under the progress and stability of our country were we able to grow up and attain the level of education that we have currently. The country has made many achievements such that as its citizens we can hold our heads up high wherever we may be. It is also where memories reside, never failing to come to mind in those times when I trod down the familiar paths of my childhood. It is a cherished space where we can see fellow countrymen who share the same history and culture as us; people of different races whom we can communicate in a language we fondly call Singlish. Common memories and shared experiences forged together since our youth are what bond us together. It is something others can never comprehend or feel as deeply about. This is home simply because it has so much of us in it.
