I received news that two of my friends had broke up some time back. Many of us thought they are still a couple. We were surprised to hear that. After all they seemed like the last pair you would expect to have a break-up.
A good-looking teacher and a pretty, now ex-stewardess. Two intelligent, friendly and kind souls. We thought they would always be together. Hell,we thought people that nice should be together. :(
Over the years I’ve seen many friends broke up with their partners over a multitude of issues - age,qualifications,religion,race,money or the most often quoted reason incompatibility. Sadly,true love does not seem to conquer the above. They are formidable challenges that people sometimes do not manage to surmount. Maybe because to some extent they form part of who we are. Our backgrounds have always existed as such and it is in that context that we live in, our lifestyles and the people we mix with. Likewise, our personalities have been nurtured over the years and our worldviews have come to be shaped in a certain way because of it. We can’t change someone and it is difficult to change ourselves to suit someone too. It is probably not simply the coming together of two hearts or two souls. For the most part of it, it is in the coming together of two lives that we see how different we are.
I just thought perhaps if we believe that people come together for some reason and break away for some reason, it might be easier for us to handle our relationships.
